Frequently asked questions

What happens at events?

Events usually take place at weekends throughout the year and can range in size from just a few people to several thousand.

Most members camp in modern tents or caravans. After you arrive it’s usually off to the beer tent or regimental gazebo for some socialising, but how you spend your day is up to you!

Battles usually take place once a day and we’ll give you training before taking part.

Will I be expected to go to every event?

No, it’s entirely up to you which events you attend.

What about my kids?

The Sealed Knot is a really family-friendly organisation and is a great hobby for everyone to enjoy.

Our campsites are secure and there are always people able to keep an eye on the kids while you relax.

Do I have to buy lots of expensive kit?

Don’t worry - the regiment can loan you the basic kit to start with.

Unlike many other historical re-enactment societies, the basic kit we use isn’t all that expensive and you decide how much or how little you want to spend.

And you don’t have to make your own clothes!

Which role could be for you?

Everyone in the regiment has a role of their own... You can try all of them to find your favourite, or even do different ones at different times. If you don’t want to go on the battlefield there are non-combatant roles to choose from.

All roles are open to both sexes, but you must be over 16 to go on the battlefield.
