Join the Sealed Knot at Margam Park this August Bank Holiday weekend as we bring history to life for all members of the family. Visit the interactive living history camp to immerse yourself in 17th Century life. Meet the soldiers of the Royalist and Parliament armies and see up close the weapons, clothing and equipment used in ages past.

The main event will commemorate the many engagements in and around Wales during the Civil War, as Parliament desperately try to wrest control of the country away from Charles I’s Royalist hands. Watch as the two sides come head-to-head in a spectacular 17th Century battle display – which army will you be cheering on from the side lines?

The Sealed Knot is the oldest re-enactment society in the UK, a registered educational charity, and the single biggest re-enactment society in Europe. The Sealed Knot brings history to life by staging events throughout the country all year round, offering a chance to experience at first hand the horrors of a nation at war with itself, as well as providing a glimpse of everyday life in those days.

  • From 10.30 am :- The interactive Living history encampment will be open from 10.30am. Explore the historical camp and meet both soldiers and civilians from the 17th century. See the traveling tailor and find out how clothes of the time were made, chat with the weavers and spinners to discover crafts that were common and delight in the smell of wood smoke as the bustle of camp kitchens plays out all around. Can you find the talented musician playing the Hammered Dulcimer? The camp will be open throughout the day with experts on hand to help you discover the hidden facts of everything 17th century. With interactive quizzes and hands on learning a plenty, the camp creates the perfect setting for your exploration into history.
  • At 11am watch the parliament infantry display and understand how the weapons of the 17th century were used and the manoeuvres of the soldiers. See our experts demonstrate the Pikeman and his 16-foot weapon that kept cavalry charge at bay. Musketeers will show you how the muzzle loading guns of the 17th century were loaded with gunpowder and how the commander deployed the units on the field of battle.
  • At 12pm Meet the horses and troopers of Sir Williams Wallers lifeguard of horse. Horses like the foot solider need to be trained for battle and in this display, you will learn about how this is done with drill riding, weapons, and kit of the period. Meet the ponies taking part in the and battle and talk to the riders with any questions you have.
  • At 1pm Transport yourself back 375 years and join the ranks of the new model army! Young and old alike are encouraged to take part in the drill sessions where you can learn about the moves postures and equipment and become a 17th century solider. With miniature pikes and muskets for your littlest warriors this audience participation session will bring history to life.
  • At 2pm The Grand battle will take place at 2pm when hundreds of reenactors take to the field for this spectacular display of 17th century arms. See the foot soldiers of the Royalist and Parliament armies, alongside the cavalry and artillery units as the drums of battle beat around. With cannon and musket fire and the clash of armour and sword, the finale to the day is set to be truly explosive.

A day not to be missed. The living history areas and battle site are in the grounds of the Park – so come dressed for the weather!

There will be a RevoLOOtion unit onsite for the event providing fully accessible toilet facilities.

DANSA Disability Bus is free to use and runs in a circuit from the Orangery Car Park up to the Castle – it can be used by the less able and is equipped with a wheelchair lift.

We are a Hynt scheme venue. Hynt scheme members would be required to purchase a ticket , the carers who attend the Hynt scheme member do not require a ticket but must be in attendance with the member.

Car parking fee is included in the ticket price.
